“Dear Tatu and Loulis”

Written by Susan Feeley

It was my dream to visit you at CHCI. I first read about you both and Washoe, Dar and Moja in Roger Fouts’ book Next of Kin and after becoming a Friend of Washoe in 2005, I knew that one day I would visit you.

Well, in May this year my dream came true. Karen and I made the journey from our home in Sydney, Australia to Ellensburg and we finally met you both.

During our two weeks stay in lovely Ellensburg we attended two Chimposiums and got to meet you twice.  Meeting you was breathtaking and you signed to us! We could only sign back ‘FRIEND’ and ‘HUG LOVE’ but that is what we felt for you.

I’m sorry we could not get to meet Washoe, Dar and Moja, but we thank you all for everything you have taught us humans. You are so amazing and the memory of meeting you will stay with us always.

It was lovely meeting your human friends at CHCI. They made us feel welcomed and part of your special family.

Good luck and best wishes during the next phase of your lives at Fauna. We’ll be with you in spirit all the way.

I’m just so glad we met you in time.
