Dirty Apples

The chimpanzees beautiful garden was finished for the season and all that remained of the apple tree’s fruit were old, shriveled, wormy apples littering the ground beneath the branches. Tatu spotted one of the apples and signed HURRY THERE!

I signed THAT APPLE DIRTY and lifted the piece of fruit to show her that it was rotten. She seemed unconvinced and insisted that I give it to her.

I signed SORRY CAN’T THAT FRUIT BAD- THAT DIRTY. Tatu agreed DIRTY and watched as threw the apple over the fence.
