Dar and I were playing chase in the night enclosure area one morning before breakfast. He stopped somersaulting to picked up a little plastic guitar and began strumming the tiny strings. We continued our game of chase, passing the guitar back and forth to take turns playing it.
We put out all kinds of enrichment each day and night; anything from masks, to magazines, to shoes, and sometimes little plastic guitars. It is hard to anticipate what the chimpanzees will find interesting and which toy, however small or seemingly mundane, can be the catalyst for an amusing game.
