Who’s Hungry?

When caring for captive chimpanzees you have to be careful not to let your routine turn into a rut. Lately, Tatu has consistently been asking her caregivers for one of two things: DRINK or NUT. I was looking for an afternoon snack that would spice things up and hopefully be a little more exciting. I came up with a twist on the classic “ants on a log”. I served two varieties of celery sticks: mustard-filled, and peach yogurt-filled with blueberries on top. Tatu was very cautious when I first presented them. She insisted that I hold up the celery so she could lick off a little yogurt and make sure it was prepared to her liking. Dar and Loulis were much more adventurous and devoured the snack without hesitation.
