As you look around the empty, snow-covered CWU campus, it’s hard to believe that there is anyone else here in Ellensburg. But even though most students have fled home for the short holiday break, here at CHCI we always have a group of volunteers to keep the chimpanzee sanctuary running. Cleaning, meal prep, meal serving and a variety of other tasks need to be done on a daily basis. No matter what day of the year it is, we always have volunteers ready to help out and make the chimpanzees’ lives better. For some of us, this is the first holiday away from home and for others it’s not, but I think we can all agree that this is the time of year that our families and close friends are on our minds.
For a few things I think we can all say we are truly grateful: amazing, understanding and loving family and friends, all the great fellow volunteers we do get to spend the holidays with, and the incredible opportunity to work with this family of chimpanzees.
So from all of the primates here at CHCI, we wish our family and friends a Happy Thanksgiving!
