The chimpanzees celebrate Christmas on December 24. Here’s a quick peek at Tatu and Loulis’ Christmas morning. Loulis is a very traditional guy. Every year he goes straight for “his”gingerbread house and carries it to the other room to enjoy. This morning he and Tatu are staying close so he shared a corner with her. Stay tuned - there’s more to come!

His traditional gingerbread house puts a big smile on Loulis’ face.

Loulis shares his special Christmas treat with Tatu.
Thank you, Sherri, for this gingerbread house! Thank you to Christmas sponsors - Dian, Evelyn and Maureen! And thank you to Shirley for every year providing cheese and meat for Tatu and a gingerbread house for Loulis. That’s right, TWO gingerbread houses! We’re saving one for Tatu’s birthday party next Monday!
We’re grateful for all of our caring supporters. You make Tatu and Loulis’ lives brighter!
To everyone – may your holidays be filled with love, friends, family and a sense of purpose.
Happy Holidays!
I was just wondering how Loulis and Tatu where doing without Dar. Do they show any signs of losing Dar, show signs of mourning etc?
Hi Marjory. Tatu and Loulis do show signs of grief and mourning. Subdued, quiet behavior is what we see the most. But we also see them getting better. Bouts of play and laughter have returned. Chimpanzees are resilient, adaptable people. While we’ll never quit missing Dar, all of us primates are learning to adapt to the new dynamic.
Happy New Year to all
